If you are experiencing a bug in our Pushover app, the first step is to reproduce the problem. If you can't reproduce it, we probably can't either and won't be able to fix it.

Once you are able to reproduce the problem, tap the menu icon in the Pushover app, then tap Settings, then scroll down and tap Resolve a Problem. Scroll down to the bottom and tap contact our support. Choose "Bug report - Android app" as the request type and then include all of the relevant information in the Message field such as your steps for reproducing the problem.

Debug Logs

If you've been asked by Pushover support to send debug logs, tap the menu icon in the Pushover app, then tap Settings, then scroll down and tap Resolve a Problem. Tap the menu button in the upper right corner, then tap Send Debug Info. You may want to follow up with Pushover support to let us know you've sent them so we can correlate them with your problem report.

Crash Report

If you are unable to open the Pushover app, or not enough information was found in the debugging logs sent previously, you may be asked to generate a full crash report. Doing this on Android requires a bit of extra work:

Enable Developer Options

Enabling Developer Options on your Android device gives you a few more advanced settings. Here’s how to enable them:

Visit your device’s Settings app and select About phone or About tablet. It is typically the last one in the main Settings or if the Settings app is broken into sections, it might be in a tab like “General" or “Device”.

In the “About” section, scroll down to the Build number - it’s typically the last one - and tap it 10 times, until you see a message that says “You are now a developer!”. Developer Options are now enabled.

Tap the back button to leave the “About” page. The new Developer Options item will now be shown directly under or above “About phone”.

Capture a Bug Report

After enabling Developer Options, you can now capture a bug report.

Reproduce the issue that you’re seeing which causes Pushover to crash.

Open the main Settings app and select Developer Options. This may be under a System menu, and then under an Advanced sub-menu.

Tap Bug report (you may need to toggle the “On" switch at the top first). After a few minutes you will receive a prompt to email the bug report, or it will be left in your notification tray. Tap on it and you'll be given the option to share it. Please send it with your e-mail app to support@pushover.net.

Note: If the Bug report option is disabled, please try enabling the USB Debugging option in Developer Options and try again.

Tasker Demo - Disabling WiFi from a Pushover Notification

To demonstrate the kind of functionality that Pushover and Tasker can provide, we’ll create a task that responds to a Pushover notification sent from our “WiFi” application (so other Pushover applications don’t trigger it) with a message “disable wifi”, and then actually disable WiFi on the device.

First, open Tasker and create a new profile.

Choose “Event”, then “Plugin”.

With the Pushover Android app installed, you should see its plugin listed here:

Now we’ll create some criteria for matching notifications. We’ll enter “disable wifi” as the message name to match (matching for all fields except “priority” is case-insensitive and matches any part of the string) and require the Application Name to match “wifi”.

After entering the criteria and tapping on the checkmark icon, Tasker will take you back to the home screen and prompt you for a task name. We’ll create one called “disable wifi”.

Now we’ll add an action to disable the system WiFi. Choose “Net” from the action list, and then “WiFi”. The default will be to turn it off.

Now we’ll add a Popup dialog just for some confirmation. Add another action and choose “Alert”, then “Popup”.

Here we’ll create a title with “Pushover - %pushoverapplication" and a text of "%pushovermessage”. These two variables starting with % will be dynamically updated with the values from the Pushover notification you’re working with.

Now we’ll send a new notification from the Pushover dashboard as our WiFi application, with the message text “disable wifi”. As soon as the notification comes in, Pushover hands it off to Tasker, Tasker disables wifi, and shows our popup:
